Notes

The journey thus far has been spectacular. Northern Ontario has some great panoramic views of the great lakes mostly Superior, very high hills (old mountains), and some quaint out of the way provincial parks. It has been near impossible to write or type while on the road because of the bouncy shaking nature of an old VW van.

Finding internet connections has not been as easy as I first imagined. We finally found a Starbucks in Winnipeg and purchased a preloaded card to enable us to upload these stories and it can be used for 2 hours a day as long as you have at least $5 on your card. Grasping at free connections along the way has proven mostly fruitless, because of the very nature of our travel, we watch them come and go before we can use them. I have to say - I have gained a new respect for secure connections and also can see the benefit of setting up a timed free one for travellers like ourselves who just want to check email and upload some pictures.

Sitting in the camper in the Travellers Campground, surrounded by large motorhomes, huge RV's pulling cars, and listening to a family squabbling about when to take a shower while dogs bark in the background makes me really appreciate the provincial parks. We took a private park location for the proximity to Winnipeg but this won't be our standard. It's 10am and the park is covered with a low lingering fog, we have no idea if the sun will shine today, but it doesn't matter - we'll be on the road again soon.

First stop we've done laundry and the comment from one of us was " Oh my god! I love the smell of fresh clean laundry." Somehow from the comments my youngest is putting on all her postcards I gathered that Manitoba has not impressed her thus far. Jessie had the opportunity to finally meet a pal she has been chatting with for about 6 years in person and got to see her spider and snake collection. She is a really interesting girl and her family invited us to come over for a bar-b-que. We had a fantastic evening at the Van Oeveren's.

Back on the road, probably won't be posting again until Saskatoon.
